Mistakes That Parents Make at Bath Time

When it comes to giving your pet a bath, there are many things that you can do to make it a calming experience. When it comes to pets, these are experiences that normally are not very relaxing. There is the water, the noise, the confinement, the process of scrubbing and all the suds. This is something that your pet may try to run from, and a time that can get messy. When it comes to grooming your pet, it is one of those things that must happen. You need to ensure that you are going to minimize all the shedding as well as reduce allergies and ensure that you are going to decrease all the chances of infection as well as the spreading of dirt and other issues in your home. While you are not ever usually going to be able to get your pet to enjoy every part of the process, here is what you can do to make the experience easier and better for your pet.

  1. Have a good lukewarm temperature for your pet. Water that is going to be too hot or two cold is going to make things difficult and ensure that your pet is not going to enjoy the experience. How can you be sure that it is the right temp? You need to ensure that you spray some of the water on your arm first in the same way that you would if you were washing a baby. Then you are going to see how the temperature feels to your hands.
  2. Difficult or Harsh Spray: You will want to ensure that you are using a handheld nozzle so that you are going to keep your pet as comfy as you can. You will see that the sound of running water may upset your pet. But if you have the sound and the wrong pressure you are really going to scare yo0ur pet. You want to make sure that you are going to keep the pet as calm as you can, spray the water on the back of your hand and then use your hand to wash your pet a little at a time. Then your pet will feel your touch and not the pounding of the water. That will allow you to keep your pet calm.
  3. Shampoo Choices: You want to make sure that you are grabbing the right shampoo. You need to look at the fact that your pet may have a different PH than you and that means that you need to talk to your vet about the right recommendations. You will see that there are many products out there that are going to offer a great and comforting option like those that are made of oatmeal. You want to ensure you ask your vet for their opinion. If you have a pet with sensitive skin, you need to test the shampoo on the leg of the pet first. After that, you will want to look at the irritations to ensure that the pet is comfy.
  4. Bad Soap Application: When you are looking at your pet’s fur you want to let the soap soak in, you will not remove all the frit that way. You are going to need to work the soap into a lather and then you will be able to work your way up to your pet’s face from the legs. Start with the bottom and work your way up. When you are cleaning your pet’s face, ensure you are using a washcloth or something that will be gentle and that you are avoiding the eyes of the pet. Wash the outside of the ears as well with a little shampoo. You ill need to tilt the head of your pet as well before you rinse him or her so that you are not going to give your pet an ear infection. Ensure that you are paying a lot of time to the pads of your pet’s feet as they can be sweaty and have smell. Use a shower nozzle to rinse the pet as well so that you are going to start with your pet’s head and then work your way down to his or her feet. That way you are not going to get any soap in their face.
  5. Not Knowing How to Brush Your Pet: You want to brush your cat or dog before or after a bath. You need to do it about three times a week to ensure that you have a pet that is happy and not full of knots. If you have a pet that is tangled, you are going to want to take him or her to a groomer first and then you are going to be able to start grooming them on a regular basis.
  6. How to Dry Your Pet: When it comes to drying your pet, you need to have the towels ready when you put them in the water. That will ensure that you are ready to drape the towel over the pet in case it tries to shake off while still in the bath. You want to know that the pet will be damp but not dripping wet.
